Liberty Central for Luzerne and Surrounding Counties

About Us

Luzerne County Campaign for Liberty began in May 2007 as the 189th Ron Paul Meetup group.  Our members met for the first time in Nanticoke, PA at the home of its founder and current organizer, Michael Harrison.  The group planned and carried out an initial effort to make and plant Ron Paul signs around Luzerne County.

From those early days, the group continued to gain momentum and regularly conducted sign waves for Ron Paul through the winter of 2007 into the 2008 primary season.

In January and February 2008, several members actively gathered signatures for Ron Paul and for delegate and alternate delegate candidates for the primary ballot.  Three group members were on the ballot in Congressional District 11 as delegates to the GOP convention.  Other members were on the ballot in Congressional District 10 for delegate and alternate delegate.  Marland Cannella, a member in the 10th district went to the GOP convention in St. Paul as an alternate delegate.

Following the conclusion of his campaign, Ron Paul announced the creation of the Campaign for Liberty national organization to continue the momentum from the campaign.  Our Luzerne County group then took on the new name to reflect the fact that our activities are not confined to the Ron Paul campaign.

Although the group bears the name of Luzerne County, it is more regional in scope.  Members of the group reside in Columbia, Wyoming, Lackawanna, Monroe, and Schylkill Counties in addition to Luzerne.  Membership now hovers around 100.

The group holds monthly meetings at a local establishment to fellowship, plan activities, and meet candidates for office.  Group activities include...

  • Information tables
  • Sign waves
  • Tea Parties
  • Trips to Harrisburg, Philadelphia, DC
  • Petitioning
  • Poll work
